Two people each in a different style of transformation photoshoot✨

Hello everyone! This is Minami from the makeup staff. 🌞
Today, I would like to introduce two wonderful guests who visited our studio together as friends!
Each of them chose a completely different transformation style.

Let’s take a look at their photos!
First, here is our guest who was photographed in the Maiko style.

舞妓体験

A Maiko is a profession that still exists in Japan today. Maiko are young women who perform traditional arts such as dance and music in Kyoto’s kagai, or flower districts, adding elegance and charm to banquets and special gatherings.
They are apprentice performers who spend around five years training to become Geiko, also known as Geisha. As symbols of traditional Japanese culture, Maiko are loved and admired by people from all over the world.

舞妓体験

The iconic appearance of a Maiko is known for its gorgeous beauty.

  • Kimono: Maiko wear brightly colored kimono and are especially known for their very long obi, called a darari obi, which hangs down beautifully at the back.
  • Hairstyle: Their own hair is styled into a traditional Japanese hairstyle called Nihongami, and decorated with many beautiful seasonal hair ornaments known as kanzashi.
  • Makeup: Their face and neck are painted white, with traditional red and black accents around the eyes and lips.

舞妓体験

Some people may wonder, “Painting the face completely white? Is that really beautiful?”
For us as Japanese people, this pure white makeup is incredibly beautiful and also very charming.

White makeup does not only suit Japanese people. It also looks wonderful on guests from overseas, and many of our international customers transform into truly beautiful Maiko. This is also because our makeup staff carefully adjust the makeup to suit each guest’s facial features. Anyone can transform into a cute and beautiful Maiko, so if you are interested, we hope you will give it a try♪

Now then! Next, I would like to introduce our guest who experienced one of our Japanese Yokai styles: Shuten-dōji.

百鬼夜行 酒呑童子

Yokai are mysterious phenomena beyond human understanding, or supernatural beings that are said to cause such strange events. They have long been rooted in Japanese folk beliefs and legends, and are also known by names such as ayakashi, mononoke, or bakemono.

Shuten-dōji was a legendary oni leader said to have lived during the Heian period, based around Mount Ōe in Tanba Province, Kyoto. He was feared as the strongest and most terrifying of all oni. Alongside Tamamo-no-Mae and Ōtakemaru, he is counted as one of the Three Great Yokai of Japan.

百鬼夜行 酒呑童子

In recent years, oni have appeared in many Japanese anime, and our oni-inspired transformation plans have become very popular among international guests!
Oni-inspired characters also appear in anime such as “Demon Slayer” and “One Piece”. ✨

In Japanese folklore, there is a traditional legend called Hyakki Yagyō, or “Night Parade of One Hundred Demons,” in which countless oni and yokai form a procession and wander through the streets and fields late at night.

The photo shoots at our studio are just like Hyakki Yagyō!
Of course, a solo photo shoot is powerful and beautiful on its own, but if you visit with several people, the result will be even more gorgeous and eye-catching!

百鬼夜行 酒呑童子

Our Yokai Plan is a very cool style that we recommend for guests who feel that everyday makeup or a traditional kimono experience is not enough. ✨

The Yokai Plan offers a wide variety of styles, and each one comes with its own dedicated costume and wig options in multiple colors.

For guests who want a more powerful look, we recommend choosing our dramatic “transformation makeup,” which creates a stronger and more impressive change. However, if you are not comfortable with a scary image, you can also enjoy the experience with “natural makeup” while wearing the same costume and wig.

Please feel free to consult with your makeup staff on the day of your visit about how dramatic you would like your makeup to be.

And if you do not have any specific requests, don’t worry — your makeup staff will create a look that suits you beautifully. ❤

“Why don’t you become a demon, too?”

Most of all, we truly want our international guests to enjoy photo shoots at our studio!

Some guests may feel hesitant to wear a kimono because it is a traditional Japanese garment.
However, we would love for guests from overseas to enjoy a photo shoot wearing kimono too. ✨

Our makeup staff and photographers work one-on-one with every guest, so even if you feel nervous about visiting by yourself, please don’t worry.

We are sure you will enjoy your photo shoot at our studio. 😊

Please come and visit STUDIO KOKORO ARASHIYAMA, where you can enjoy an extraordinary experience in Arashiyama, Kyoto. 💜💜
